PADI Assistant Instructor: Your First Step Towards a Rewarding Career

If you have a love for both scuba diving and people, and you’re ready to embark on an extraordinary journey, becoming a PADI Instructor may be your calling. This role allows you to share your passion for the aquatic world while pursuing what you love most – the underwater adventure.

PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors and PADI Assistant Instructors are recognized as the most sought-after dive professionals worldwide. This prestigious status is achieved by completing a program that defines the industry standard for training dive professionals. While the journey to earn your PADI Instructor rating requires hard work and dedication, the rewards are immeasurable.

Why Choose the Path of a PADI Instructor?

Do you aspire to join the ranks of dedicated professionals who teach some of the world’s most progressive and popular scuba diver education programs? If so, it’s time to Go PRO by enrolling in our Instructor Development Course (IDC).

The IDC consists of two essential components: the Assistant Instructor (AI) course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program. Most aspiring dive professionals opt to complete the full IDC and subsequently participate in an Instructor Examination (IE), the final step toward earning a PADI Instructor certification.

Successful completion of the AI course results in obtaining a PADI Assistant Instructor qualification. When you’re ready to take the next step, attending the OWSI program grants entry into an IE to earn your full PADI Instructor rating.

For experienced dive professionals holding instructor ratings from other training organizations, direct enrollment in the OWSI program is a possibility. This acknowledgment of prior instructor training offers a streamlined path to becoming a PADI Instructor.

Requirements for Enrollment:

To enroll in the PADI Instructor Development Course, you need to meet specific criteria, including:

  • A minimum of 60 logged dives (with 100 dives required to attend an IE).
  • Recent Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care (CPR and First Aid) training within the last 24 months.
  • A medical statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months.

While not mandatory before enrollment, you can also earn your Emergency First Response Instructor rating during your instructor training.

What to Expect in the Instructor Development Course

Over a minimum of five, but often closer to seven days, our IDC will equip you with the knowledge and skills to conduct all PADI core courses. You’ll become proficient in organizing and delivering information, conducting skill development sessions, and ensuring the safety of student divers during open water dives. Key topics covered include:

  • PADI Standards and Procedures for courses you can teach, including in-water workshops.
  • Learning, Instruction, and the PADI System.
  • Risk Management and Diver Safety.
  • The Business of Diving and your role as an instructor.
  • Marketing Diving and Sales Counseling.
